21st-Nov-2009 03:31 pm - I Should Be Writing A Paper
...but I'm gonna do this meme instead because I spend an obscene amount of time on my memes so this is a good time-waster and I'm too bothered to write the concluding paragraph of my criminology paper right about now (and that was totally a run-on sentence, oops).

This should probably be posted on my last.fm because it's based off of my charts there, but whatevs.

So, without further adeu...

Top 10 Artists for the last three months:

01. Passion Pit
02. Stars
03. Phoenix
04. Miike Snow
05. Islands
06. Vampire Weekend
07. Imogen Heap
08. La Roux
09. Santigold
10. Bloc Party

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
I'm pretty sure it was A-Punk circa April/May 2008. I remember them being the musical guests on SNL and wondering who the fuck they were.

What is your favorite album of 2?
Probably Nightsongs just because it has such a calming effect on me, and it has my favorite song by them on it (On Peak Hill). In Our Bedroom After The War is a close second though.

What is your favorite lyric that 5 has sung?
Can I choose Tender Torture as a whole? Because I would love if anyone ever said anything of that stuff to me, as sappy or cheesy as it would sound. Seriously, just look at some of these lyrics:

And I've seen some great things / But I don't want to see anything / If I can't see you / Kicked open a coconut / Could've shared it with anyone / But I wanted to share it with you

I'll be your strings / If you pluck them / I'll sing for you / And if your hands are feeling tender / I'll take them in my own and make them better.

How many times have you seen 4 live?
Not yet, but I will on March 27th! So unbelievably excited because I've heard that their live show is fantastic.

What is your favorite song by 7?
Headlock. I just love when the drums and bass kick in at about 1:12. The whole song has a creepy feel to it. It's stunning.

What is a good memory you have involving the music of 10?
Some time last semester, my roommate and I were getting annoyed at how loud our neighbors were being so I was looking through my music library to see what songs I could play that would annoy them (they listen to country and mainstream pop). I ended up blasting Flux at full volume on repeat for about 15 minutes and we had a mini-rave in our room, dancing and slapping the walls and door. Fun times.

Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
If I Ever Feel Better makes me kind of sad. I don't know why, but it's one of my favorite songs by them anyway.

What is your favorite lyric that 2 has sung?
Ahhh, this is too hard. But, it'd probably have to be from On Peak Hill, of course:

I walk awhile before I sleep, count the secrets that I keep / I hope for more, I know for sure I fall apart before I weep / I disconnect the telephone, cause I can choose to be alone / I'll get more done, I'll have some fun, pretend you're not the only one

These lyrics got me through a tough time around August/September. I love this song to death.

What is your favorite song by 9?
My Superman. It has a haunting feel to it, which, if you haven't guessed by now, I absolutely love in songs.

How did you get in to 3?
I was really into Passion Pit (well, still am) and in May I downloaded Manners on the day it came out and decided to download Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix just to see how I liked them since I kept hearing that they were amazing (through blogs and whatnot). I listened to them a bit, but got heavily into them once they announced that they were playing with Passion Pit in September in Central Park.

What was the first song you heard by 1?
Sleepyhead. It was in January and part of the Indie/Rock Playlist that I downloaded through last.fm. I remember thinking that this song was so different from what I listened to at the time and that's why I loved it.

How many times have you seen 9 live?
Zeroooo, but hopefullly at least once in my lifetime.

What is a good memory you have involving 2?
Listening to What The Snowman Learned About Love for the first time on their album Heart (it's the first song) and realizing how amazing this band is. I was worried because I loved In Our Bedroom After the War and thought their other albums weren't going to live up to that one. I was pleasantly proven wrong.

Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?
Definitely Cover My Eyes, which is self-explanatory if you look at the lyrics. Typical trying-to-move-on-but-can't song. Also, I'm Not Your Toy just because it reminds me of when I realized that I was wasting my time on a particular person.

What is your favorite album of 5?
Vapours! I haven't really listened to Return to the Sea or Arm's Way that much though so this could change.

What is your favorite lyric that 3 has sung?
From 1901: "Past and present, they don't matter now, the future's sorted out." Or, when he just sings "Fold it, fold it, fold it" just because everyone always thinks it's "Falling, falling, falling" but...it's not.

OR, from Liztomania: "Do let do let do let jugulate do let do let do" because singing it is fun.

What is your favorite song of 1?
It's a tie between I've Got Your Number from their EP, or Little Secrets from their debut album. I've Got Your Number sends chills down my spine when Michael sings "Have you seen me cry tears like diamonds?" Little Secrets is just way too much fun to dance to. It's the perfect pop dance song.

What is your favorite song of 10?
Signs, without a doubt. So utterly lovely. Chilling and haunting as well, which I love.

How many times have you seen 8 live?
None, I could've seen her at All Points West, but I missed her set because I wasn't really into her at that time in August. Fail on my part.

What is your favorite album of 1?
They only have one full-length out so I would have to with Manners. Chunk of Change is good, but Manners is much more cohesive and shows their true musicianship as a band...because, let's face it, Chunk of Change was basically written and produced all by Michael as a Valentine's Day gift to his girlfriend at the time. Manners actually includes the whole band.

What is a great memory you have considering 9?
I don't have one? I just remember all through the end of September and beginning of October turning on her album before I fell asleep for a couple nights in a row.

What was the first song you heard by 8?
Bulletproof. I remember the exact moment I heard it. I was at home watching mtvU and that music video came on and I was hooked. I looked up the lyrics while watching to figure out who it was and then was pleasantly surprised that she was going to be at All Points West.

What is your favorite cover by 2?
The only cover I know that they've done is This Charming Man by the Smiths. I actually like their version better. One of my favorites off of Nightsongs.

What is the last song you heard by 4?
I think I listened to Animal last night. Fantastic song.

I should've wrote down what time I started this. I think I wasted a good hour and a half. Time to finish my paper, then I will update on my life. Don't quote me on that though because we all know my track record with posting here...

24th-Oct-2009 04:41 pm - Ch-Ch-Changes
Since the beginning of this semester, I've been grappling with the idea of changing my major, from Chemistry to Communication Studies, with a concentration in Radio/TV/Film. Needless to say, my parents (well, mostly my mom) were completely against the idea. They painted me the bleakest picture of my life if I decided to switch: I would be struggling in NYC, working as a waitress, trying to get my feet on the ground and make some money being a filmmaker or something.

That didn't scare me or stop me from doing what I felt I needed to do.

I just wasn't enjoying myself or the people around me anyway. Don't get me wrong, I love my chemistry major friends. It's just that I had so much work that I couldn't have fun anymore. Chemistry was stressing me out to no end. Honestly, I couldn't picture myself doing chemistry for the rest of my life. I couldn't picture myself going to medical or veterinary school anymore. I don't know what changed, but it's not what I want anymore.

At the beginning of this semester, I joined WTSR, the radio station here at TCNJ. I'm part of the music review staff and I'm currently going through DJ training (every Friday from 8-10am) so that I can get my DJ license and can have my own show soon! Training is almost over so I'll probably be taking the practical and written test sometime in the next 2 weeks. Then, I'll be on the air!

I love working at the radio station. Everything about it is so interesting to me. That's another reason why I decided to change to Communication Studies. Whenever I would tell people that my major was Chemistry, they would always say they assumed it had something to do with music or movie production, since those are my loves. In high school, whenever I had to make movies for projects, I never considered that work. That was tons of fun for me. So, why wouldn't I want to do something I consider fun for the rest of my life?

So, Monday I officially changed majors. Thursday I dropped my Organic Chemistry class.
It's been awhile since I've been so carefree and happy and not stressed.

Oh, and I joined Alpha Phi Omega, the community service fraternity here. And this semester I'm finally on a crew for EMS. Actually, tonight I'm on duty. Let's hope no one is in dire need of medical assistance. I want to have a decent night sleep tonight.

15th-Aug-2009 05:09 pm - I Love Fuse
...aka, I love the Killers. But really, who didn't know that already? Just finished watching The Killers Rock Fuse. Plus, tonight is Lollapalooza coverage on Fuse, including the Killers!

So, yesterday and today have been great days! Yesterday, camp wasn't so bad. I got tips totaling $80, only from two campers who were ending this past week. This makes me hopeful for this upcoming last week of camp, which there are still 10 campers left in my group, all capable of tipping very generously. I'm going to act extremely friendly and energetically this whole week. You know, make a lasting impact on these children and have them gush to their parents about how much they'll miss me...because I'm so awesome, obviously.

I already spent my $80 in tips. Last night, I went to the mall with my mom and Adam. Adam needed dressy work clothes for when he starts student teaching this semester. I had a "get $30 off of a purchase of $75 or more" for Express so I got 4 really really really amazing shirts, plus 2 pairs of leggings. AND I finally got my cartilage pierced, yayyyyyyyyy!!!! It didn't hurt AT ALL and it looks fantastic, if I do say so myself.

The proof of its fantastic-ness )

I'm still set on getting my nose pierced. My parents, not so thrilled. My mom thinks nose piercings are trashy and slutty. It's totally not fair that she was perfectly fine when Adam decided to get a tattoo because his tattoo is on his shoulder blade and covered up. Yesterday when I was getting my ear done, Adam jokingly said, "I'll get my nipple pierced!" and my mom was like, "That's fine, no one can see it."

Fuck no.
Not cool.

I'm still debating whether or not to just get it done while I'm down at school (8 more days!). My mom said that if I get it done, she'll take my car away. But hey, SHE'S the one who paid for my parking decal for the school year so I'll just say that that was a total waste of about $250 then. I'm sick and tired of conforming to what my parents want. I want to do what I want to do. I'm almost 20 years old!

Ugh.

12th-Aug-2009 09:32 pm - Kids Say The Darndest Things
At camp, there is this one camper named Isaac. Not gonna lie, he's my favorite out of the 16 or so campers in my group. More often than not, he's spaced out and it takes a good 5 times of calling his name to get his attention. I told Zara and Jordan (my co-counselors) that he'll be a stoner when he grows up. His best friend Daniel, who is also in my group, will turn out to be gay. Zara, Jordan, and I have a lot of fun predicting what each kid will be like in about 10 years. I just wish we'd get to see if we were right.

Anyway, back to Isaac. Today during free swim, him and I were sitting near the edge of the pool and talking. Suddenly, we began talking about Harry Potter. Our conversation goes like this:

Me: Have you read the books?
Isaac: The first three.
Me: Oh ok. Chamber of Secrets is my favorite.
Isaac: Me too. It's very suspenseful.
Me: I wish I could go to Hogwarts.
Isaac: I wish I could say "Expelliarmus" and take off your shirt...and your bra!
Me: What?!? You don't want to see me naked.
Isaac: You'd be naked in front of Dumbledore!
Me: HAHA, ewwww. I'd much rather be naked in front of Harry, instead of Dumbledore.
Isaac: But imagine Dumbledore's face if that happened!

This isn't the first time that Isaac has made "inappropriate" suggestions. He once said that he "wanted to play with my bongos" and makes a squeezing motion with his hands. Just this week, we were sitting down at lunch and I asked him how his bagel was. His response? "Do you have a boyfriend?" Not exactly the answer I was anticipating...I think someone has a bit of a crush on me. I realize that these situations taken out of context may seem more awkward than funny, but I swear, all of these things are said in a joking manner and it's HILARIOUS because Isaac is so...unique. I'll miss him once camp is over :( 9 more days!

11th-Aug-2009 11:04 pm - Cha-Ching
So, perusing the Sephora website is such a bad, bad move for me. I just ordered about $150 worth of makeup and hair products. That seems like a lot, but I only ordered 6 things:

- Bare Escentuals Starter Kit (I've always wanted to try this foundation, got a free lip gloss with it too!)
- Urban Decay Waterproof Eyeliner (I've needed waterproof eyeliner for ages)
- Dior Mascara (yesssss, anything Dior is golden in my book)
- Stila Lip Gloss Trio (I'm getting tired of wearing only chapstick)
- Frederic Fekkai Luscious Curls Cream (I was running low...need to stock up for school)
- Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream (because my hair is a frizzy mess)

And hey, I needed all these things eventually, so why not just get them all at once? It was free shipping and I got to pick out 4 free samples with my order. Next Friday I'll get my paycheck anyway. That's how I'm rationalizing this splurging.

Speaking of paychecks, I can't wait until camp is over next week! Yes yes, I'm a camp counselor...for 7-8 year olds. I love the kids in my group (minus about 2) but 8 weeks of the same thing everyday is extremely tiring. Plus, once camp is over, it's back to school on that Sunday (the 23rd)! Can't wait to have a room with our own air conditioning, bathroom, and carpet. I'll miss my co-counselors from work though :(

26th-Apr-2009 12:38 am - Too Good To Be True
First off, can I just ask why the hell was it 89 degrees today??? Ew, way too hot for my taste. I was fine being outside for like the first 5 minutes then I started missing the cold (or, at least the mid-60s weather of a couple days ago).

Anyway, at first glance, my life right now would look as if it sucks. Really. Any outsider would think that I'd be so totally depressed right now because of everything that has happened in these last 3 weeks. All but one of my close group of friends here at school has stopped talking to me. It's pretty ridiculous. The only problem I have is with ONE of my friends, yet the rest of them are acting as if I'm some crazily contagious person and are totally ignoring me. Plus, the hectic end of semester work is upon me. I actually have it easier than the majority of people I know, as far as workload goes, which is good. However, finals are approaching and the thought of studying for those tests is so totally depressing.

The thing is, right now I'm probably the happiest that I've ever been in awhile.

Why?

It's astounding and remarkable and fantastic how one person can change your mood drastically. It's amazing how one person can make you feel so happy that nothing else matters. It's crazy how you can feel so comfortable with someone and feel as if they know you better than anybody else. I've never clicked so well with someone before...and I hope this feeling will never end.
15th-Mar-2009 01:37 am - Oh Hey, It's 2009
Dear lj,

I haven't forgotten about you.

21st-Dec-2008 05:11 pm - On Cloud 9
All I really want to say is that I am in the best mood ever. Everything is going right with me, for once, and I feel fantastic.

Well, at least mentally, not really physically today. I think I'm definitely getting sick.

BUT I DON'T CARE. I AM SO FUCKING HAPPY!!

That is all.
17th-Dec-2008 09:26 pm - I'm So Bad
So, I'm back home!! And it is oh so glorious. Sleeping in my wonderfully comfy bed, having absolutely no work to do for a whole month.

I baked delicious cookies today. They are peanut butter chocolate chunk. Seriously, peanut butter + chocolate is my total weakness. In my eyes, Reese's are heavenly.

I also put all of my textbooks for sale on half.com. Plus, some really old CDs that I bought when I was 12 and had no taste in music apparently and random books that I bought either for summer reading for high school or before realizing that it is smarter to just get books at the library. Take a gander at what I'm selling.

Want to know how bad of a child I am? Well, a package came yesterday and my mom had told me when she picked me up from school not to open any packages that came (since they may/may not be Christmas presents). So, I was very tempted to know what was in this package. I figured my mom got it from eBay so I logged into my mom's account and saw what she ordered. I mean, my mom knows I know her password since I created her account for her ages ago. So yeah. The present is awesome, but I'll keep you in suspense until the 25th =]

And hey, you know what's a really great song? Spiralling by Keane. It's awesome. But actually, I'm addicted to the song Tidal Wave by the Killers. It's wonderful. Go listen to it. Now.

Caitlyn
